Alef Bais

We are moving along with the Alef Bais letters and we are now up to the 13th letter, the letter Chof. To help us remember the letters, we formed the letters with our bodies, we practiced making the letters on the board, and every student searched in our classroom to find objects they can make the letter with. We had some very creative ideas:)

Parsha Lesson

This past week we learnt the story of the Parsha which spoke about the decree of King Pharoah against the Jewish males and how Moshe was put in the basket in the river to hide. We had a great puppet show to reenact the story.

Our Weekend News!!!
A big thank you to our wonderful parents for sending in those pictures, we have lots of fun discussing all events, asking questions and relating similar experiences. Even Morah Rebecca started participating :)

Mariella brought in a picture of a ginger bread house that she made over the weekend, all covered in candy, yummm.  She and her father made up a story about that house and the bear. Everyone loved the story so much, that Mariella had to retell it multiple times all throughout the week :) Thank you for sharing!!!

Our first snow experience as a class!!!
Everyone was very excited to put "snow" on our weather chart!!! We bundled up and went to play/ learn in the snow. We collected some snow into buckets and brought it into our classroom for a science experiment.  What is snow made out of? what makes it melt? what happens when it melts? - were the questions on our bright little minds. Learning with hands on experiences is the best!!!

Our new Theme
"Our Community"

This week we began building on top of our theme "I can" a new theme
of "Our Community." There are many things that we can do on our own, both at school and at home. However, all of us have certain responsibilities. Thus, by taking on different roles we create a coherent community - to meet our needs and wants; the only way to achieve it - is by working together as a team.
To illustrate such a deep topic, we created our own community from scratch.

We asked questions such as:
We need a place to live - who will build it? construction workers
We need food - who will grow it? farmers
We need water - how will we get it?
We need stores near us to conveniently purchase food and clothes.
We need schools for our children, who will teach them? teachers
In case someone might get sick, who will make them feel better? doctors
We need someone to maintain order - police.
In case of an emergency - who will come to our rescue? fire fighters, police, hatzolah - ambulance.

And of course our Shul or our Synagogue. There, we spend most important times of our lives - we get married, we name our children, we have brismilah, bat/bar mitzvas, we prey. We prey to G-d, the king of kings, the one who rules the entire world. Everyone of our community members goes there to ask for the things they need in order to be successful in their business, they prey, they ask for forgiveness, they ask for brachos(blessings),  they ask for someone to feel better, and so forth. It's the place where we all unite and feel as a part of our Jewish0 community.

We have also discussed the difference between a responsibility - something we "have to do" (for example keep our classroom neat), and a jewish concept of "chased."
Chased is an act of kindness, something that we not necessarily have to do, but it's something that is ultimately defines us as who we are as people in our society. Giving tzedaka (charity), standing up for an older person on a bus or a train, helping a friend when no one else wants to help, making someone feel better, letting our parents rest while playing quietly, visiting the sick, etc.
In the next few weeks, we will be visiting our community helpers: fire fighters, mailman, police officers, librarians, store owners. We will be also collecting both responsibility pictures and chasad pictures, please send some for us from home to make our learning experience as rich as possible :) Also please reflect those concepts in your mitzva notes :)

Thanking you in advance for your support in all that we do,
With much love and appriciation,
Morah Rebecca :)
