Dear Parents and my classroom Cuties!!!
On Monday we started of yet another exciting week with our weekend news!!! Although we had only two participants this time, we had enough questions that lasted us a third of our circle time!!! It was a fun and informative language exercise.
On Tuesday we reviewed the number "4" and it's relationship to the numbers we have previously learned. We introduced a "Greater than" sign and practiced "tricking it" by making the amount of dots in our equation equal on both sides. However, our smart cookies were quick to the rescue to help our sad sign.
On Wednesday we continued with our letter "H" sounding out new items such as:

Every morning during our circle, we keep up with our calendar, and the weather. We talk about what was yesterday, today and tomorrow, the month that we are in, the season, and exciting events such as birthday parties. We help our "Weather Bear" dress appropriately for the season making sure that he is nice and warm.

While continuing our theme of "All About Me", we read some books about families. We made a chart of everyone's family members: parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, cousins.

Thanks to Our wonderful parents, we all got a chance to talk about our very own families. When children saw their family portraits, happy smiles filled the room with warmth and comfort. We made a special place for all the pictures and put them up together on our family wall.
The first family member we talked  about in detail were our special Mommies. We read a book called "My Mom" which described many things that our Mommies do for us everyday. Then, we went in a
circle talking about what our very own Mommies do for us, and compiled an entire list!!! We couldn't believe how long it was!!!
Our next step was to draw our Mommies, we brushed up on our "mat man" remembering all the body parts and gone to work.

On Thursday we began our day with the celebration of Mark's English Birthday. Since now we know how to make a face, we made happy smiley birthday cookies for Mark!!! Taking turns measuring out each ingredient, pouring, mixing, talking, laughing and simply having fun!!!

After nap time everyone looked forward to a delicious treat, we could hardly wait, including Morahs!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY MARK!!!

We also had a special visit from our Morah Music - Morah Rivki.
She treated us to music and movement with instruments, songs, bean bags, scarves and special musical notes.  While enjoying themselves, without realizing our young learners were following multiple step directions, taking turns and actively participating.

 Thank you Morah Rivki!

Can't wait to see everyone during our Curriculum night,
There will be no kids homework for Monday!
However, hope you didn't think I was going to let you of the hook so easily. During our every day activities I have been noticing a lot of "i can't"statements. Can't put on my shoes, jacket, write a letter, draw, etc. So to help the situation, We started showing the east way "how" and pointing out when kids surprising themselves "were able" while saying "see you can." Behind our family unit is always a "Big Idea." I would like my little brave learners to walk away this year always thinking "I can!!!" It should be on their automatic pilot. Having a positive outlook, trying, achieving, being successful should become "All about Me."
I will bravely ask you, my wonderful, caring, amazing parents to allow our kids a little more independence at home. Practice makes perfect. Allowing them to pore for themselves (maybe getting a small pitcher), giving them time to dress themselves in the morning even on a weekend (being a mother myself, i know how hard it is to get out of the house every morning), but most importantly for every try even if they don't succeed at first provide lots of positive reinforcement using the phrase "you can!"

For Monday, I would like you all to go back to your childhood, when you were about 3 or 4 years old, and think of something that was difficult for you personally. I will ask you to draw a simple picture of it, and will use it the next day in class to introduce the "I Can Board."

Good Luck,
Have a wonderful weekend,
Good Shabbos,
Sincerely yours,
Morah Rebecca :)
